100D with flash and manual

I'm currently using a K100D - nothing comapred to the beautiful istD. As for the SR - where is it - really, I don't have the shakes.

Anyway, I'm using the 50mm 1.4 on the 100D set at f22 but when using the flash everything is WASHED-OUT.

Anyone know why this might happen?

Sounds like you have an A lens and don't have the aperture set on "A".

Agree with Mike. If the lens is set to anything but 'A', the built-in flash (don't know about an external) will always fire at FULL power. And if you are in Av mode with the f-stop set to f/22, it actually shoots (and meters) wide open @f/1.4 (ie the setting on the ring doesn't matter, you need to go into Manual mode on the camera). So I'd imagine f/1.4+Full power flash=washed out photos.

Thanks Mike and Gordon.

Using your guidance I set it to M and it works great. It is NOT an A lense so presumably, it is an A.

Tried it with an SMC PENTAX 1:4/200 AND AN SMC 1.4/50 and flash did NOT wash-out.
