Pentax K-x far out performs the k20 at ISO 1600

I chose the K-x over the K7 because of its low light performance(being half the price helps as well). I have read reveiws that state the K7 performs slightly worse than the k20 at high ISO levels. Being an owner of a k20, I can state that the K-x far out performs the k20 at ISO 1600 ( check it on the video review: Videoclips about Pentax K-x Digital Camera ) . This camera is perfect for shooting pictures of people and settings where a flash would be considered intrusive. Its relatively fast focus speeds and hd video make this camera the perfect tool for capturing those special moments with my friends and family. I think you can get more candid shots when you don't have a flash announcing that a camera is present. I still prefer my k20 for more formal photograpy where a "hands on" approach is desired, but for everyday use, and at this price, I think the k-x is hard to beat.

I agree with you. The K-x is probably the best first camera someone could get right now and sure makes a nice back up camera for any K-20D owner out there. I will wait another 10 months or so before I upgrade my K-x for a more profesionnal camera. I can tell you that I'm pretty sure that next camera will be the K-5 (looks like an awesome camera).

Enjoy your K-x!

Could you post a set of comparison pictures?

If you want, I could take some RAWs from my k20d... I'm curious to see the difference at ISO 1600.

This is a well-established fact. A newer generation sensor with much better noise control even after controlling for the lower resolution. We could probably say that the K-x outperforms the K20D at all ISOs greater then 1600 as well.

The Kx is a great performer!
Unfortunately it is an entry level camera in many other aspects which often makes it hard to use as a replacement body.

Agreed, The KX is one of the best DSLR values of all time. I have a K20 and bought the KX as a travel camera due to its low light performance. Seems like we always end up in places that do not allow flash. It takes great pictures but on occasion, I have used both cameras in similar settings and I prefer the "look" of the K20 pictures. The KX is also a little slower to change settings on, especially in manual, after using the K20 with the two wheels. I do like the KX's small size and light weight and it has served very well at the job I bought it for. I am awaiting the inevitable fall in price of the K5 then I will have to let my K20 go and upgrade.
