A low battery can cause erratic behavior such as this.

You're not supposed to use SR when the camera is mounted on a tripod.

Top LCD is showing full battery so that is not it.
SR should disable in bulb automatically. Could be a real problem requiring service.

You realize that is what the camera does during DFS, which I believe is always present in Bulb?

Mine is doing that too, It always has. Its on tripod and bulb mode, it is during DFS.... I used to just turn the camera off and back on and of course the picture would finish processing but the noise went away but the other night that part started malfunctioning too, Now often you lose the picture if you shut it off.

One thing I know is that it seems it is getting louder all of the time....

I honestly thought it was holding the mirror up for some lame reason checking it shows it is not..

Also whatever it is can be physically felt.

That really sounds like a serious malfunction to me. I can't see any reason for the camera to do that. (unless you haven't asked for crazy amount of dust shaking)

I use bulb a lot - never had anything like that though. Mind you I don't use SR with bulb either.

SR goes off automatically in bulb, the noise is assumed to be SR but would be inconsistent with the settings, It only comes on after the shot is taken.

To me its like a dry bearing fan trying to run on the left side internal of the camera (as shooting). Mine is not as loud as his but very noticeable when outside shooting in the quiet air.
