Pentax K7 LCD Screen flickers and ghosting

I just had this rare moment,
when I opened my camera the LCD screen started to flicker like crazy and I can see some ghosting on the status display.

turned it off, then on again, still there,
changed the modes in to video, took some sample shots and its still there

after a while, I noticed the flickering and ghosting is reducing,
so I kept on doing the same thing over and over again,

now the flickers and ghosting disappears.

what do you guys think of what happened on my K7?
thanks!

Was it dropped recently or any hard bangs? Sounds like a wire may be loose in there somewhere. But that wouldn't explain the ghosting. What temps you operating it at? Extreme temps sometimes cause this.

it wasn't dropped,
as for the temperature,
just a normal room temperature,

Well, those were my ideas. Other than those it sounds like a bad LCD. How old is it?

less than a year old, still has warranty though
I've tried placing it on a cold air conditioned room, then bring it outside,
nothing happened.

then I also tried placing it on the attic at high noon (damn it was hot)
nothing happened.

its weird,...

----

Still observing it though,
after a few hours with continous use, even used the video capture mode and tried to intentionally heating up the camera,

the LCD screen was fine..

Are you using a genuine Pentax battery, or another brand?

I have seen the same thing on my K-7, I was going to take it back, but 24hours later it was no longer flickering again. I also noticed at the same time the TopLCD had the number of frames stay visible for 5 seconds after i turned the switch off at the same time, during the issue.

I had the battery grip on at the time, I did tighten it a little and i have not experienced it since, but i cannot be sure what caused the issue, but i have seen the same thing.

I do feel it's battery/power related.

Kr screen flickering and ghosting

Hi there,
I found this old thread after doing a forum search for the same issue.

My camera is a Kr rather than K7, but the symptoms are identical.

I had been reviewing the day's images on the rear screen, when the battery ran out.
I changed batteries to 4 eneloops in the AA adaptor cage - and when I turned the camera on again, I immediately got strong flickering and ghosted frame numbers in the info screen .
Its the first time anything like this has happened in nearly a year of regular use.

Having previously noticed posts about a different issue (runaway mirror flopping) being related to fully-charged batteries, I wondered if this might be similar, so I did about 20 sensor cleaning shakes from the menu, to use-up a bit of juice.
Weirdly, this seemed to work, as on the next power-up, the flicker had reduced to a feint amount of shimmering.
I went back to pixel-peeping my images and after about a minute, the flicker had gone.

I'm now in a slight dilemma, as it makes me wonder if something is going seriously wrong with my camera - and I only have about a week left on my year's warranty, but if I can't replicate this flickering again back at the retailer's, I doubt they'll offer to replace it (assuming they have old stock of the recently discontinued Kr).

Could any of you shed any more light on this issue of LCD screen flickering after a battery change?
Is it a downward spiral to a poorly camera, or just a minor bug?

Thanks in advance.

Been shooting with the K7 for almost a decade. Just had this happen.

Turned camera off, removed battery grip, removed batteries... Power-cycled (without batteries), replaced everything, and the flicker is gone.

Convinced it's a battery grip issue.
