problem with k-x & Sigma 70-200 2.8 II HSM video?

I recently purchased a second hand Sigma 70-200 f2.8 II APO EX DG HSM, and while I am pleased with speed of the focus system, and the IQ for still photos, I am unable to create a video.

With my Sigma 17-70mm and Sigma 30mm, I can get the camera to focus prior to starting the video recording. With the 70-200 it just hunts and will lot lock onto the subject. Is there something wrong with this lens?

Anyone else have this combination to verify one way or the other?

I read somewhere that you need to send some Sigma lenses to Sigma to have the firmware updated to work with Live View. FYI.

It's OK with manual focus?

I don't recall any problem with it on the K-7 and the only thing I can think of is that you are testing it inside the MFD of 100cm on the Sigma 70-200.

The MFD on your other two lenses will be a lot shorter.

@K Logan, maybe it is a firmware issue, maybe I can wok out the age of the lens from the serial number?

@Bazz, it wasn't minimum distance causing the issue, as the kids were 3m away. I can set the focal length using manual focus, then start recording video, it's just the initial focus that is not working.

I need to decide whether to request a refund, or keep it. If other Sigma 70-200 can do video focus, then I'll get a refund and buy a different one, or a new one.

Not sure where you're based but you can borrow my Sigma for a quick test if you're near CBD or 3194.

k-x text with bazz' 70-200

Hi Bazz

Thanks for the offer, I would love to take you up on that.

I am in Mitcham, but I will be going through CBD Melbourne on Wednesday early afternoon. Maybe PM me some contact details and I will drop n for a 5 minute test?

I'll bring my 70-200 too, and we can see if focus lock works on your K7.

Cheers, Jeff

Further to testing sir Bazz' lens it seems the k-x cannot get focus lock with this lens. Apparently it cant 'focus lock' with any HSM lens.
