Some (not all) hot pixels can be treated this way. However, the effect of treatment may not be long lasting for some. This leaves a subset of hot (more properly "stuck") pixels that can indeed be "cured" using these long exposures. A similar approach is used for the stuck pixels on LCD monitors; a software sends strong signals to the pixels for long periods (hours).
As was said, there is no harm trying it...

I've used the method that jonrkc mentioned for several times with my K100D.
And it works just fine. I post my test before with this method at dpreview.
The hot pixels will come back again somewhere else again in the future and all we need to do is just remap it again with the same method.

I was thinking to send it to Pentax too last January 08 until I learned this method.

I'm pretty skeptical, since it seems like if this were true, Pentax would not only have told me so when I asked about it, but actively tout it as a feature. Can't hurt, though.

PixelFixer works on the raw files of the older Pentax DSLRs to remove hot pixels. K200D and K20D are in the works.

The program has a number of other features as well:
  • Remove hot pixels from raw files
  • Remove hot strips from raw files
  • Perform dark frame subtraction on raw files
  • Extract embedded JPEGs
  • Rename raw files
  • Show number of shutter releases
  • Associate with folders and files

Thank you
