Neck Strap Issue Has Struck My K-7

My production date was 2009:08:25 and it has less than 6,000 shutter counts.
I am glad it did not happen while it was hanging on my neck. As it happened, I had just pulled it out of the bag and noticed the flaw. I could not find one of the other threads about this issue from last year and I remembered this was not altogether uncommon with this design.
So off to repairs it goes and the K10 gets some alone time with me.

Ouch!
I'm happy for you, you noticed it like that coming out of your bag.
Lets hope he will be back very soon.

Quite sure I've seen one before on this forum; quite a while ago though. Can't remember who it was.

I never liked the single-point attachment of the strap posts on later Pentax cameras. I much preferred the older method of strap attachments, which actually was part of the metal chassis.

Sure glad you noticed the post detachment before having your K-7 around your neck. That would have been a disaster!

Yes I knew I had seen it on the forum at least once and that it had been a long while. Thank for the internal link.
I use my neck strap the traditional way, connecting on both sides and assure you that the camera is never mishandled in the least.
From the picture in the previous discussion in at least these two instances it is the "lug" strap connector on the mode dial side that has failed.
The camera is under warranty completely and shall be sent for repairs very soon.

You mean your K-x has "Steve's Digicams" printed on it? Strange.

I better be carefull with the K5 that's coming my way. I always pull my wife's K100D out the bag by the strap; so if they have not improved this I will join this legion one day

What actually happened?

The thread on the lug don't look like they've been stripped, so did it just unscrew or did something actually break?

Sup Guys?

For the record, my baby's on about 52K shots (near double when the strap lug fell off). I haven't heard the nut rattle. i don't think the issues my baby's having has anything to do with the lug not being there (battery and freezing issues from using 3rd party batteries, a few stuck pixels, half it's shutter life in just over a year)

However, i did almost drop it last weekend... i'm hoping this strap lug problem isn't an issue on the K-5..
