I was going to buy a D7000, but...

I found an unbeatable deal on a new K-r kit.

If you subscribe to Newegg's email deal alerts, there is a coupon for 15% all DSLR's.

Earlier this evening, Newegg discounted the K-r 18-55/50-300 kit to $949. I was going to buy it at that price, but when I added it to my cart later on, they had lowered it even more to $899.

Then, when I applied the 15% off coupon, the final price was $770 shipped.

I know there is another $100 rebate card floating around, so I may submit that as well.

This could bring the price down to $670.

So, at most, the K-r kit is going to cost me $770. I had planned on switching to the D7000, but for this price (basically half of the Nikon kit), I just couldn't resist.

So now I don't need to eBay my FA50 1.4, and this will make for a really nice upgrade from my ist DL.

I guess I'm still a Pentaxian.

$670 for the K-r and two lens kit would be spectacular!
Congratulations if you happen to get the extra $100 off.

At $799 for the body only, I thought the K-r was slightly overpriced. However, throw in the two lenses and subtract another $30, and it's probably the best deal in that segment.

With just the 18-55mm kit (k-r) it works out to $684.95. For $80 more I would get the 55-300mm also. Even if just to sell.

I think I may take some of the money I saved and invest in a DA* 16-50, or a Tamron 17-50 F2.8.

As far as IQ, is there a big difference between these two? I know they're both superior to the kit lens, but what about to eachother.

Thanks

Considering, on balance, and with due regard for specifications from mfgrs websites; the overall reputations of each, and the significant price difference, then IMhO it might be the IQ of the buyer that seriously needs questioning if they got it wrong.

So often it all boils down to whether one wants a tool to serve, or an object to admire. Or, on a similar angle; peer approval for equipment purchases.

Lets be honest here, if we were the type that wanted peer approval for equipment purhases we wouldn't be using Pentax in the first place.

Not really in the same class are they? If you found a deal on a K-5 and went for that I can appreciate it, but the K-r is entry level vs d7000 ... mid level.
