Never. It's not designed to be tethered.

Connect the camera to a computer via USB (in the case of K10d / K20d) and use the computer to control the camera or multiple cameras. The desire of it is for the photos to download directly to the computer as they are taken. Typically used in a studio setting for product photography, fashion photography, portraits, etc.

With the K10d and the K20d you can access everything via tethering that you can on the camera alone. I think the real desire for it though is the instant download to hard drive of the photos. Personally I can live without it but apparently many can't.

I think after almost a year and a half on the market if Pentax was going to release a firmware update to somehow enable tethering with the K-7, it would have been so by now.

The K-7 does not have tethering capabilities. Let the dead horse rest in peace.

No way is K7 able to be 100% tethered, sensor heat build-up takes care of that.
K5 on the other hand with 100+ minute exposures is a different animal.
