Sold: an entire Canon L kit to go for Pentax 645D- with no lens!

Just browsing my local PhotoCo in Adelaide today where i had spotted they had the 645D in for sale recently to be told it had sold already!! (no mean feat considering it was selling for $12+K)

I also noticed a crazy array of about 20 of the pro quality Canon L glass there, 400 prime, 24-70, 70-200, 100-400 etc etc etc, 3 of the tilt-shifts, 85/1.2, 50/1.4, 24/1.4 etc, 100 & 200 macros, super-wide etc etc etc - almost looked like the entire pro catalogue - all sold as a result of buying the 645D - and without the 55mm lens in yet!!

Though I was told the guy who is selling had the full kit in Nikon 35mm as well... So its not a total jump ship

My mind boggles at the amounts changing hands, but whoever it is must be having a great time and about the worst case of LBA ive come across.

Im amazed this hasnt received any replies!

Seems every third thread has someone lamenting Pentax not having a full frame camera in its line up and therefore losing people to Canon/Nikon... And the other doomsayers saying the 645D would never entice any Canikon pros away from their gear - and yet here we have an outstanding example of just that!

Selling out of Canon full frame and probably $30,000+ worth of pro-glass for a 645D without a lens, days after it arrived in the store!

well, i thought it was quite a statement

The 645D is going to be the perfect camera for some.

But that Canon rig might be the perfect setup for others.

I actually find it incomprehensible that someone could trade all for a system with only one lens. But once Pentax solves that obvious problem they will have a lot of shooters in their pocket.

shit yeah!
If i was a Canon man, i'd be going nuts!

Funny, although Pentaxians tend to feel the odd ones out - all my closest mates & my brother all use Pentax, so I dont really know any Canon people to let them know.

The guy probably didn't get that great of a trade-in value at a shop. He should have sold the lenses individually online. I'd say good for him as long as he isn't thinking medium format (1.27x crop factor?) is some type of magic that will make his pictures better. haha.

i believe the 645d is backward compatible with older 645 lenses so it's not necessary to wait for new lenses to appear before getting the new body.

For the record, that wasn't me. I am selling off my canon gear, it's true. But I wouldn't do anything that stupid. the D-FA55mm f/2.8 looks like a superb lens I wouldn't mind adding it to my large collection of 645 and 67 glass.

It's not really clear in your post if the man traded these, sold these, or if they're just listed on consignment.
