My Friends,

Long time no see. I haven't posted in quite awhile. I love my Pentax K-10d. I've had nothing but great times with it. I only shoot in manual mode so I can control all aspects.

I was considering upgrading. Not necessarily replacing the 10d but checking out what the K-5 is all about. Could someone give me a quick run-down of the most definitive changes from the 10d to the K-5 ? I know the K-5 now has a CMOS type sensor at 16 mp.

Is it worth it? I sometimes use my 10d for Infrared photography and perhaps I can still keep it on hand .

Any help is appreciated.

Hi David,

My 2 cents:

I've had a K10D for 3 years, sold it last week.
I've had a K-7 for just over 1 year.
I've had a K-5 for just over 1 month.

What I liked about the K10D over my K-7 are:
- Much nicer colour rendering
- Much nicer "type" of noise, less disturbing

With the K-5, I've got a K-7 with K10D images and better...
Is a K-5 worth it? Absolutely! In many respects.
A few more things than allready mentioned, I like are:
- lock on the mode dial
- Saving last previewed image
- Level indicators
- Very effective live view mode / AF
- Grip

The K-5 in my mind is what the K-7 should have been, plus much better ISO and AF.

It is a pitty that Pentax did not add AF in movie mode, it would have made the K-5 stand stronger against the D7K in marketing.

- Bert

Well, I am finally buying a K-5 this month. I waited over a year and have seen the prices in some cases go in the 800-900 range now. I think now is the opportunity. What is Next for Pentax?

If you knew, you might be tempted to wait another year

It's sad for Pentax but they lost a camera customer; for my needs the K5 is perfect and I will not replace it till it breaks.

K-5 continued

I heard the rumours.....a full 35mm CMOS Sensor? Ugh........ with the possibility of mirrorless functionality........ I wonder where in the price scale that will be.....

And......would the K-5 continue as a current model with the new full frame the flagship?

The K5 is a bargain - considering that it will put you into FF territory, IQ wise
