Report from Sweden

Yesterday (friday) the swedish photo exhibition opened. I had not planned to go as it usually has little for us Pentaxians. However I happened to bump inte to pentax agent while buying filters on thursday and was given a ticket, so I went there on friday.
Pentax presence was good! OK, indirectly represented by the importer, but lots of K-r and K-5, all current lenses, and also the 645 with 5 additional lenses. Of course they also had all the compacts. Very small area of course if compared to Nikon and Canon, but still a big step forward for Pentax I think. Interest was good, but no crowds initially. I would however assume that many people there on a friday were professionals therefore mostly spending time with Canon or Nikon or on seminars. I will not go there today, but would think more people will be in the Pentax booth today.
I tried the 645 of course, and it is really an amazing camera. Too expensive for a hobbyist like me, but still tempting. The performance of my new K-5 has helped to take away the 645BA as the IQ of the K-5 is probably better than the 645, just lacking the resolution and the VIEWFINDER of course. I am already looking forward to the next 645 models, the agent claimed there are two new models to be expected next year. Speculating: One true consumer model with 30 or 40 Mp and half the the price compared to today, and one using a new Sony sensor scaled up from the K-5 ?
Today (saturday) there will be a Pentax geek meet at the exhibition, for the first time I will miss it though...but maybe there will be someone who will go there that can report a bit more on the matter.

Hmm, a scaled up K5 with a Sony sensor. That sounds an awful lot like a Pentax full frame DSLR. If they really bring something like that out I'll be purchasing it with the 43mm ƒ/1.9 and 77mm ƒ/1.8. If Pentax brings out a 24mm Limited lens I'd be set for life. Well until I can afford the 645D...

Just for clarification, the speculation was mine, not from the Pentax agent. The only thing the agent said when I said we expected one new 645 model next year, he said there would be two. I would not consider information like that as very credible as agents or even Pentax outside of Japan seems to have very little information on the future.
I do not believe Pentax will go FF. I think they will continue to grow the MF offering, and I am convinced they will build a K-r inspired 645 at around 5000-6000$. I think they will have a much better chanse to compete in that area by offering a pear to compare with the apples from Nokin and Conan.

Ah well, one can only dream. However the idea of a cheaper medium format option is extremely appealing too.

Great news if Focus Nordic understands the importance of being present at shows. I hope they do something similar in Norway sometime soon, it's not a common opportunity to check out the 645D.
