Major K20D Firmware Possible ?

Just checking the specs of K20D compared to K-7.

Since they use the same sensor, do any of you think that a third party could make a firmware version that has video, 1080 x 720 at 24-30fps would be very cool, don't you think ?

Also, do you think HDR mode could be added, why not ?

I know it would negate warranty, but if anything happens you go back to Firmware ver. 1.04

I think if someone did a good job of this, they would be able to sell it, I would buy it !!!!

Just thinking out loud ;- )

The K20D and the K7 do not have the same sensor. The K7 sensor what based on work on the K20D sensor so some of the numbers are the same.

The K7 sensor has more hardware so that it can read the data off the sensor faster. Also the K7 has a faster processor onboard and more memory with faster electronics to move the data around.

I don’t see any of what you are asking for as a possibility for the K20D.

Agreed, firstly the K20D lacks the hardware to be able to handle video and secondly a third party would have to sell such a firmware update at a pretty inflated price to make it even a vaguely viable venture for a camera now 2 generations old.

As others have said, I don't think it would be possible due to hardware limitations, nor would it be economically viable.

The easiest way to video and HDR for about $150 is to sell the K20D for about $450 and buy a used K-7 for about $600.

(FWIW, I understand that's not really what you're after, and I'm also aware that some people prefer the K20D to the K-7)

Thanks Guys !

I was just putting that up as wishful thinking.

My K-5 when I get it will do all that I know. Since I like the K20D sensor better for low light higher ISO photography, I was just hoping a little video something could be done. It would have made a nice ad on.

My K20D's are photo tools only, video is almost never used, just wanted ,-)

Take care,

wll
