Noisy ISO Club!

Hey Sebastian - did you use NR on those images? Look great, but wow are they clean for ISO 6400!

Here is some K-5 grain. You have to go to ISO12800 to start getting good noise. Not sure if Pentax had input into the Sony sensor noise characteristics or if they tweaked it to their liking, but it seems to follow all past Pentax noise patterns of not sacrificing detail to smoothing. And note the incredible dynamic range of this sensor, still able to hold highlights in the ear. This would have been totally blown on my K20. Oh...forgot to add, no in-camera NR and no NR in post-processing either.

yes in camera NR at medium, and NR aplied in LR.

A couple of examples of OK noise in different circumstances:

1. Long exposure noise on the K20D (the ISO will surprise you)

f/8 ISO 200 30sec with 18-55 WR at 18mm

2. Short exposure on the K10D:

f/5.6 ISO 1600 with Tamron 28-75 at 28mm

This was in a room with lighting far off in the corner and a hallway light (providing side-lighting). Took it last night and the results might make me go out in the evening with my K-x. Image adjusted for some contrast and warming up.
