K10D noise at startup

Greetings. I've owned/used a K10D for a wee bit more than 3 years. Over the past few weeks it has been used not at all, although I checked the battery and all. Tonight when I turned it on it made a "chuttering" noise that sounded almost like it was quickly trying to autofocus on the lens cover. I do not recall it ever making such a noise. Any ideas? Yes, I've googled but nothing found.

Did you set the Dust Removal function to fire at start-up? Check you Start-up option settings.

You should also feel a mild vibration when this sound occurs at startup if it is the dust removal system being activated.

I would say that somehow you triggered the dust removal on start-up option. It's not a bad thing and I would leave it as is.

responses to my inquiry

I checked the startup options and yes, dust removal is active. What puzzles me is why I never noticed that sound in the past, and how, assuming it was not active, it is now activated. Is it possible to inadvertantly activate that option?

Maybe you performed a factory reset?

If the default option is dust removal on and if you reset the dust removal will be ''on''
Can't imagine why it would be off though. It doesn't affect anything in a negative way does it?
