K10D AF Problem?

Hello. I have a new-to-me K10D on which the AF only kicks in when I press the AF button on the camera back, not when I depress the shutter release. Is this a problem that I'll either have to fix or just live with, or is there a setting somewhere that might be over-riding the shutter release AF actuation?

If I have to live with it, that's not a huge problem. I rather prefer manual focus in most situations, but it's nice to have the option.

Thanks.

I don't have a k10d but I think there should be an option in the menu to enable or disable auto focus using the shutter button.

Not a problem, just a setting.

Menu>>Custom Setting ("C")>>Scroll Down to "AF by Press Halway">>Set to 1 (ON)

You can reset all the custom settings to the defaults by going to the last item in the Custom Setting menu which reads "Reset Custom Fnction"

That was precisely the problem. Thanks guys. I missed that bit in my quick read through the manual.
Although I do have to wonder why someone thought a menu item to essentially disable a switch on the camera body was a good idea.

It is a good idea. You only have to focus and recompose once to take multiple shots. It also lets you separate focusing and SR activation.
