K-x focus in live view?

I have noticed that in live mode the auto focus works really slow, but when I am out of live view it works very fast, is there a certain setting I need to set the camera on? I mainly use the view finder and have just noticed this issue

That's characteristic of the K-X and others of the previous generation. The contrast-detect AF method wasn't implemented all that well in the first LV DSLRs.

Many reviewers report that LV AF is nearly useless for that reason, barring a situation in which you can wait for the precision of the LV AF. If you can't wait, use the viewfinder and phase-detect AF.

Newer bodies, e.g., K-5 and K-r, reportedly do much better.

I do all manual focus, but haven't used LV yet--but I think I'm going to start playing with it.

Since you can zoom your magnification, it seems that MF is the way to go with this.
