K7: New vs Used

After the first of the year I plan to purchase a K7. I figure on getting a new one as there really isn't much of a price difference between new and used right now... B&H has them for $870 new, and the average price for used on the marketplace here and on KEH is $700. Granted the difference in price could be used to purchase a lens. Other than that is there any advantage to buying a used K7 with less than 10,000 shutter actuations?

Warranty. That is a big deal to some people but other than that these shutters are expected to live up to 100,000 actuations so I see no big difference between a new and used one (obviously a used one in good condition though). So unless warranty is a big issue for you I would suggest getting a used one and as you already stated, use the $ saved to buy a lens.

From what I've read so far, most problems with the camera are evident long before reaching 5000 actuations, so a well cared for used K7 should be fine for me. And the cameras I've seen advertised here look to be in really good condition, which suprises me as these tanks are built for abuse and they seem to be babied. Which is a good thing for those of us in the market....

While you have 12 months warranty with a new camera body, some 2nd hand shop like Keh are very reputed because they check the camera before they sell it. You can be basically confident that it is defect-free. Keh in particular is highly regarded for being conservative in their description of the camera conditions. I purchased from them and I will do it again.

In my opinion, a K-7 below $700 at Keh is a bargain (there is one at $695), and I would give very serious thought (if I was in your shoes).

Hope that the input will assist...

I picked up a used one on ebay (semi local) for $699 Can. but it included everything from the original purchase plus an extra battery, no lens. No shutter count was stated and I took a chance. Got the camera and checked the shutter count: 1274. the camera was barely used! I've been very happy with my purchase. I already had a K-m and 4 lenses so I didn't need another kit lens, kwim?

Well, I have some gear for sale or trade in hopes of getting either a K20D or K7. I know I'll be happy with either. I did have a K20D a while back and miss many things about that camera...
