Can you do anything with the K-x without a memory card?

Stupid UPS lost my SD card I ordered. Get my K-x Friday, but the replacement SD card Amazon sent out won't be here until Monday. Can I do anything with the camera in between?

You probably can not do much, beyond playing with the menus. I would be knocking on neighbors doors, asking to borrow one.

Yeah, I would either try to borrow one from someone or go out and buy a second card (which will be useful to have anyway). I know I couldn't have a brand new toy sitting in my house for a long weekend and not be able to use it

Yeah, I'm kinda tempted to buy another card, but I'm real short on money.

You can get a 4GB card at Best Buy for under $10.

So Walmart probably has a 1GB card for 2 bucks.

Says "Store Pickup: Not Available", which probably means it is an online purchase only item. Which also means shipping time is involved.

given the time of year what is in store will vary wildly, but i would be very surprised if you couldn't walk into walmart(ugh) best buy or pretty much any small dealer and find a cheap usable card you could then make your backup card once the good one arrives. even the drugstores have cards up here (but at inflated prices for low end cards)
as for the store pickup not available, i would bet they have something cheap in store they are offering instead

Hmmm, that's strange as when I copied the link earlier it gave me the option of putting in my zip code and checking stock in my local store.

Regardless, I'm sure if you walked into a Best Buy/Walmart/Target/etc. you could find a reasonably cheap SD card to hold you over for the weekend. A couple months ago I left my house with my camera, several lenses all ready to take some shots when I took my son into DC to visit the Smithsonian. Took the camera out at the Metro stop to take a couple shots and realized the SD card was at home and I didn't have another one in my bag. I think there was a Radio Shack right outside the metro stop that had a 2GB card for under $10. It wasn't the fastest card in the world, but it was better than not being able to shoot anything at all

Might also try CVS and/or Walgreen's. The latter has a store brand that goes down to about USD $10 - unless it's on sale. I just checked and don't see any on the Web site for ordering but they're usually in displays around the photo desk.

And Sears seems to carry 2 GB cards in the $7-$10 range.

There have certainly been times in my life when $10 was simply not on. I can empathize.

OTOH, I'd strongly suggest a second card for overflow/backup in any case. In that case, it's a matter of "when" rather than "if" you get some sort of second card.

Nice. Was able to have Amazon cancel my replacement and give me a $5 promotion. I'm gonna order a Transcend 8gb Class 10 card (my original order was for a class 6) and it'll be here tomorrow and only cost me a few cents more.

Here's the card:
