Preflash or no preflash...

What version of the firmware are you running? I upgraded my K10D to version 1.30.

I upgraded almost immediately after getting the camera two weeks ago, so I don't have much experience with the camera as it was delivered. I do know that the flash modes were changed by the upgrade. Specifically, support for wireless flash synch was added, but I don't know what else was included.

With that caveat out of the way, my camera has two basic flash modes, one with red-eye reduction and one without. When I set it to red-eye reduction, I get the pre-flash, before the shutter fires. When I set it to no-red-eye reduction, I only get a single flash from the built-in flash.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you download and install the firmware upgrade.

You can tell which version you have by holding the Menu button down while turning the camera on.
