yeah the K-x needs a split prism focus screen to be useful with manual focus lenses as the view finder is just not big and bright enough for my eyes otherwise...

I'd have to agree. Unless my subject is quite close, I find manual focus with the KX very difficult (though perhaps no more difficult than with any other modern DSLR in this price range). The viewfinder is just too small and too dim to be useful for manual focusing. It can be done, but it is tricky and time consuming. I've found myself reverting to the lcd screen when I'm indoors so I can use the digital zoom feature to check my focus.

Maybe I should just get my eyes checked.
