how do i stop the lcd from self adjusting

hello
when i am in live view everything looks fine. but when i take the picture it comes out dark. the same thing with video.
when i point the camera in different directions you can see the lcd get lighter or darker but it does not seem to show what my final output will be.
how do i get the lcd to reflect what my pic or video will look like.
thanks

You can't in my experience. I'm trying to learn to rely on the histogram to judge the photo.

Another point: your monitor can also be set to be to dark/light/contrasty. And most LCD computer monitors exhibit similar behaviour as the camera LCD; some are better and some are worse.

PS it's inherent to the technology used

just like the optical view finder the live view finder is independent of the camera settings.

This is because its just used for framing / composition where as optical or digital preview is used to show you what it will look like.

once you learn the camera more you wont consider this disappointing.

which camera do you have?

on the K20d K10d K-7 K-5 (all the high end cameras) there is a little aperture like icon next on the on off switch. (off, on, preview) You hold the power switch over to the aperture icon to get either digital or optical preview depending on what your menu setting is set to.

menu setting on my K-5 is camera menu 5 (red menu) button customisation, preview dial.

hello
i have the k-x.
there is a menu option for the green button for dig and opt preview
i tried it but when i press the green button before shooting it does not seem to do anything
so right now i'm lost.
this feature would be such a great help if i could nail it down.
Strangely enough when i use my 2.0 50mm manual lens i get a better idea of what's going on.
thanks
