It was a real pleasure to go out shooting with the K200D and a MF Sigma 4.5/500.

Very nice shots.

The last time I tried to use my K200D (a couple of weeks ago), it was up to it's old tricks - wouldn't turn on with either fresh alkaline or even with fresh lithium (!!!) batteries. I went for the K200D over the K20D for the ability to use AA batteries but AAs really don't work well, even lithiums or good quality rechargeables.

Beautiful photos! I don't have the K200D, but own a K10D (same sensor). I love the sharpness and natural-looking colors you achieved with these shots

I just thought I'd check and see if anyone else misses the K200D. I believe it's one of the poorly-received Pentax DSLRs, owing to a small buffer and pricing (if I recall correctly, we were all spoiled with the K10D back then).

Personally though, weather-sealing and AA batteries (with apologies to the Li-ion supporters ) for an entry-level model is pretty amazing. Pentax already has WR kit lenses, so I'm hoping they'd come around to release another entry-level DSLR with sealing. With the better rep Pentax is getting these days from mainstream media, maybe a new K200D would turn some heads and be a viable travel DSLR.

What do you think?
Don't miss it at all. Still got one A bit late but what the heck

My K10D passed on and the K200D is now my only DSLR. It works well, but I miss the chunky feel of the K10D.

IQ is fine. Battery life is not so good. I do have the battery grip and I pack plenty of extra rechargables when I go out, so all is well.

Me too. The K200D is still my main camera, with a K100D for backup and poor light situations. I use eneloops in both and have the Battery Grip D-BG3 so there is no risk of running out of power.

The only thing that bugs me about the K200D is that it has the power contacts for power zoom lenses and refuses to use them! (I know they are not there for that but it still irritates me). Did anyone ever find out why?

Those contacts were later re-purposed for powering the focus motors of those lenses which have them.

Yes,I understand that. It just puzzles me as to why they would not enable power zoom as on most other cameras with those contacts. Clearly the two usages can co-exist. Obviously it is only of interest to those of us who happen to have some power zoom lenses, but they evidently thought there were enough of us to enable it on the K10D, which I believe the K200D was based on.

I didn't realise that power zoom still worked on any DSLRs. Maybe the K200D didn't get it as it was a cheaper model.

The digital *ist line does not support power zoom. Starting with the K10D, always (and only) the top models of each line do it.
These are the K10D, K20D, K-7, K-5x, K-3x, K-1.

But it is a very basic support (just motorized zooming). Even the entry level Z10/PZ10 supported at least some of the additional goodies.
As far as I know, only the Z1/PZ1 (and the MZ-S ?) made use of all the functions.

For the Pentax digital cameras, you can look up the support in the "Pentax DSLR Comparison" section, you won't find it in the reviews database.

My K200D got used again for the first time in several years after my K5 has apparently died (will attempt to troubleshoot sometime). Still works great although I feel there is a bit of a dropoff in quality from the K5. I have been waiting for the K3 replacement and am back on the forums looking for any news. It appears that there still isn't any news. Looks like I will be using the K200D for a couple of months at a minimum since I have other big expenses to take care of first.
