I'm also a proud owner of a K200D since it came out, but now I'm slowly looking forward to a K-7.
Love the 200, but it's simply not keeping up with the kind of nature photography that I'm shooting...

Well now. I've just bought a SH K200D and a WR 18-55 because I'm fed up with trying to keep my K100D dry and my budget was about £250. Reading this thread is making me drool - and I'm looking forward to having the K100D still around for low light.

My photography is hardly leading edge, I only used film up until I bought the K100D about three years ago (used an ME-F before that, got some nice old M series lenses - nothing great, just some of the better low end ones like the 100mm macro and the 200m f4)

I don't do much processing on the computer and always shoot in RAW, but even given my level of ignorance I'm still amazed at what I can do in near-darkness with the K100D - sounds like I'm just about to be equally amazed by the K200D in broad daylight. There obviously may be better newer cameras around, but its gonna be years before I can afford one, and it looks in the meantime I'm getting a true classic just 'cos I wanted something i could take out in the rain - it rains a lot here :-) .

i purchased my 3rd k200 last month
the first one was sold @ 200k shuttercount the 2nd was sold @150k sc..

i do really hope pentax built more camera like this one...

I'll post later with my impression of my new secondhand K200D - it deserves a properly thought out post. But one thing occurs immediatly after my first weekend using it (in stormy weather, of course) - bad weather goes with poor light, and yet we have a camera that likes 100 or 200 ASA. It would be really good if Pentax were to produce a cheap (ish) 28 or 35mm lens that is weather resistant for their WR cameras.

For now, I guess I'll just take my old M 50mm 1.7 along and try to keep it dry. Easier than the whole camera, I suppose.

All cameras are better at lower ISOs, the K200D is no different. No, wait, it is... the K200D is superb at low ISOs. I´ve read a lot of complaints from people that low ISO IQ can´t compare when they move to another model. Nothing does everything well...

The K200D rocks. The only weakness is low light AF and that isn't that bad.

I wasn't complaining - I'm really pleased with the K200D. But I did realise how much a low light (F2.0 or better) WR standard lens would be a good companion to the lenses that are already available.

Heck, I like the K200D so much I've spent all my beer money 'till Xmas on a 50-200 WR to go with it.

When I got mine, it came with the 18-55mm nonWR kit lens. I was disappointed because of the lack of WR, but the lens itself was quite versatile. When Pentax started including the WR version of the 18-55 as a kit lens with their premium models, I figured a lot of buyers would end up selling their "kit" lens when they got a star version. I think that did happen, because I was able to pick up an 18-55WR for only about $100 at that time. It serves admirably for that price, in any weather. I've read a lot about the 16-45 lens, but it's not WR, and it runs about twice as much as the 18-55. Obviously, the more you want to invest, the better lens you can get, but most K200D people are careful budgeters. For me, that means the 18-55WR to get the most for the least. For now. : )

The K200 is the only DSLR I have ever owned or indeed used. I can't say how it compares to anything else but in decent light the results are very good indeed. It needs to some effort though to get the best out of it! It's the right balance of size and weight and with the 18-55mm WR lens it's a great outdoor camera. I've only had a lot of dust issues as I have experimented with older glass on it and my house produces dust like crazy......

The top lcd is such a good feature and when I bought it new the weather sealing was such an unusual thing to find at that price point. Really found it odd that it was discontinued so quickly when it was such a good deal. I've owned it since new and have taken soooo many shots with it. The only thing I'd like is better high ISO performance but hey, that would mean buying a new body which as a postgrad is not going to be happening!

I've enjoyed this thread and the really good pics that people have done with this camera. I need to start shooting RAW with it though to me the jpegs are pretty good straight out of the camera!
