Unable to install firmware update v1.02 on K-x

I just downloaded the Mac version of the new firmware update (v1.02). After downloading the .zip file, I opened it and copied the fwdc206b.bin file to my SDHC card, which was mounted on the Mac desktop because my K-x was connected to my Mac via USB. In order to unmount the SDHC card from the Mac desktop, I ejected the card volume from the Mac, then disconnected the USB cable between the K-x and the computer. Both the online instructions and the download's "Read Me" for the update said the next step was to insert the SD card and turn on the camera power while pressing the Menu button. But my camera was already powered on and the SD card was already inserted for the USB transfer, so I figured I'd better turn off the camera and remove, then replace the SD card before turning on the camera power while pressing Menu. After doing this, however, I didn't see a "NOW UPLOADING" message on my LCD monitor, which simply stayed black. I tried this several times, tried holding the Menu button for as long as I could after the power had come on. Nothing worked. When I removed the SD card and powered the camera while pressing Menu, the LCD showed I still had the old firmware version 1.01. Any idea how I can get the new update on my camera? Any chance Hoya will revise the instructions to make them clearer for Mac users and/ or users who can only access their SD cards via USB?

Press the menu button first, then turn on the power.

USA seems to lag the Japan site sometimes by weeks.

It is on the Japan site:

Latest K-x Firmware Update : Software Downloads : PENTAX

" PENTAX wishes to announce the release of Firmware Update Software Version 1.02 for K-x.
Firmware in this document is the software that runs inside digital cameras.
Changes to V1.02
* Compatible with SDXC memory card.
*Transfer rate is not compatible with UHS speed class.
*Contents of [Version 1.01] will be also updated.
"

I downloaded it last night.

Thank you all for links...

One more feature added to K-x, compatibility with SDXC cards, most other cameras at this price point do not have.... and Canikon cameras boast about it as feature on the high end cameras...

It's early days yet for the SDXC -
nice of you to say so -
but I really don't think this is a differentiator -
I think most manufacturers will update their current dSLRs to be compatible with the SDXC soon - with firmware -
like Pentax just did.

I just checked - according to the respective websites both the entry level Canon Rebel T2i, and Nikon D3100 already support the SDXC......

@UnknownVT:

Bien cordialement, jpette

One of two things has happened (assuming you actually copied the file to the card and the card is in the camera).

1. You put the firmware in the DCIM directory (folder) on the card ------ Don't. Put it on the card so you see the BIN file AND the directory, or completely empty the card before beginning.

2. You downloaded the wrong firmware file. ------ Make sure you have the proper one. The K-x will not even recognize the firmware for the K-r for example.

Otherwise (after you've made sure that your batteries are fully charged), you're doing everything right. The entire update will take about 2 minutes once it starts. DO NOT turn off the camera until you see Completed on the screen and the red flashing light.

Welcome aboard.
