I think my favorite piece of glass is my old super-tak 28. I've also got an M50 1.7 I use quite a bit.
The green button (or the +/- exposure button) are your friends for getting the numbers close. From there, you can futz with the settings to your liking. The downside is the focusing. There's no split prism, and the viewfinder is a bit on the dim side compared to say the K1000. And significantly smaller. I have very good eyesight, and I still have trouble nailing focus with that thing. If I can't stop down, I use live view and zoom in. Might want to consider a focusing screen.
