I have four M42 lens and I only paid $30 for one of them as I had 3 old lens on my Prakitca film camera body

2. Pentacon 50mm f/1.8
I have not used it much but the manual focusing is very fine on the focusing ring. It is a fast prime when I used it for indoor test shots

I have the Pentacon - I bought it 20 years ago from a junk shop, it was in the bag with a Praktica PLC2 and Carl Zeiss Jena 135/3.5. To be honest, the Pentacon 50 got little use because the CZJ is so much better.

The Pentacon is OK. I recently did some resolution tests with it and found that it got reasonably sharp when stopped down to f4. The closest focus is 33cm, but since my SMC A50/1.7 closest is 45cm, it means that the Pentacon does have its uses :-)

I never paid attention to the closest focal distance of my Pentacon 50mm f/1.8. Oh man, 33cm is really short and I would experiment next. The glass is not of the best quality though it is fast at f/1.8. Since I have my FA 50 f/1.4, my m42 lens is less used.

By the way, I have the Schneider 135mm f/3.5 and it is a great beauty. Please check if it has any resemblance to your Zeiss Jena 135/f3.5

I manage to get some shots of my 1st film camera -- Praktica MTL5
along with my Prakticar 28-70 zoom f/3.5-4.8. I used my K100D with
Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 to make it a complete shoot on M42 lens shooting
M42 lens -- all in hand-held snapshots with manual focusing and stop
down metering. First 5 shot with Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 in iso400
ranging from f/1.8 and f/2.8 to upper f/5.6. I shot this indoor
around 5:00pm.

love the small size and short neck, the focusing ring is the best
that I have used in manual focusing, it is as good as the Pentacon
50mm f/1.8, if not better.


Please don't go shop crazy for these lens as the Prakitcar 28-70 is
really hard in focusing with a short focusing ring. I am dumb
founded today in using it on shooting the Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 &
SuperTak 35mm f/3.5

All editing in post processing are done with Picasa minor tunning on
'I am feeling lucky', 'shadow', 'highlight' and light tunning

Yeah, the combination of 50/1.8 and 33cm can be useful. My Pentacon has a bit of a fault in that between 33 and 40cm it won't stop down (but will open up). That's not a big problem.

Since I have my FA 50 f/1.4

I want one of those :-) but first I have to persuade the keeper of the treasury keys (and she wants some new carpet first) :-)

By the way, I have the Schneider 135mm f/3.5 and it is a great beauty. Please check if it has any resemblance to your Zeiss Jena 135/f3.5

My Carl Zeiss is an 80's lens and it does have multi coating. Here's a few pics:

Richard, I enjoy very much on your pictures from old glasses. All of my M42 lens don't cost over $30 a piece. I love the old glass, this zoom Prakticar 28-70 f/3.5-4.8 in M42 mount with slippery and short focusing ring surprises me on manual focusing/aperture on flying birds



and I manage to shoot flying seagulls not by intension but just at the right spot in the right timing to force me to use this lens for the unmatched purpose last weekend









And the Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 with mistakes in using low iso 200 in K100D going after high speed moving cars with panning on their movements at night.





All shots are done in hand-held and stop down metering.
