How many shots can u get on K-x (RAW) on 1 set eneloop?

Hi

I am thinking I need to replace 2 of my eneloop sets as i think they are getting old and they dont last very long nowadays. How many photos can u guys get with the K-x (shooting RAW) on 1 set of eneloop on average?

Hey, I usually take up to 600 shots when I don't use flash as much (about 20%) and 400 shots with 50% flash. Sometimes it's much less, it really depends on the usage of the lcd screen.

if I use HI speed cont shooting much roughly 400...if not..around 600.

I am not too sure if RAW uses any more power than JPGs -
certainly the Pentax manuals do not make any distinction in its battery capacity.

If it's of any use -
I use exclusively eneloops (or confirmed re-badges),
shoot JPGs and get on average over 1,200 shots/charge.
My last usage to shutdown was 1,270 -
I have gotten as high as 1,578 and as low as 968
- for my normal usage -
- very little flash, minimum review, no movies, and no Live View
- also little things like the power light turned off.

There are others who have reported similar high shot counts/charge,
and a report in the early days of the K-x (on firmware 1.00?) that was significantly higher.

My 3 sets of eneloops have been in use from my K100D since about March/2008 -
they do not seem to show any diminishing capacity - yet.
Eneloops are specified to be good for 1,000 full charge/discharge cycles
even if this was optimistic, I would still expect them to be close to good (full) capacity for at least 500 cycles?

However one should note obviously shot count varies by the type of usage
- so that's why I have a caveat that it's for my typical usage.

UnknownVT - We don't get that high no. of shots per eneloop charge...not even close. I wonder if my eneloops are faulty or our K-x or the charger is not up to par.

I use a Sony BCG-34HRMF smart charger...perhaps i should upgrade to the Maha C9000.

How batteries are being charged (i.e. What's the charging time, charging current? Are they discharged before re-charge? What charger is used to charge them?), when one gets > 1000 shots from them?

I was getting over 1000 shots with eneloops, then I started getting under 400 with 2 different sets.
It turned out to be the charger that came with them.
Now I charge them fully then rotate the batteries in the charger and charge again.
I also take them out of the charger after fully charged because the charger drains them if left in.

I need to replace this charger soon but I am getting over a 1000 shots again with this routine

I shoot RAW LCD screen is on. Never used Live view so far however used to do a lot of continious shooting for birds in flight. I remember now that an older set which I bought two years ago and used it for the k200d somehow didn't wnated to last very long..then I bought a new set with a new charger and now using that new set for the K-x...maybe it was the charger? not sure which is the older charger

Like I said it depends on how you shoot - I would consider my shooting pretty frugal with batteries.

But the Pentax K-x manual page I reproduced shows the conservative shot counts for 1900mAh NiMH -
which eneloops ought to be able to exceed - under the same conditions.

The Sony BCG-34HRMF is actually a fine lower priced charger -
it is very good indeed for charging 1-2 eneloops
and so-so/OK for 3-4 at a time.

Reason: for 1-2 batteries the approx charging time is 115mins
which means this is close to 0.5C charging current (specs=1050mA)
- whereas for 3-4 the time is increased to approx 230mins -
that's about 0.25C (specs=525mA) - which is not quite so good.

So a "strategy" might be to charge 2 at a time as the total time would still be about 4 hours -
although you'll have to remember to change the 2 batteries after about 2 hours.

I will certainly try charging the eneloops 2 at a time. Thanks for this tip. I never know this actually make a difference...well, things u learn everyday

Would u guys recommend the Maha C9000 charger? It is pricey though so I hope it is worth the bucks.

since the SANYO Eneloop charger uses 250 mA I would not go over that
I charge mine Eneloops in BC-900 @ 200 mA and they are okay for 400 raw shots in cold at least

I have done about 600-700 photos, no live view. I use a Rayovac charger PS16. Bought at Walmart . This charger charge 4 batteries but each batteries is indepentatly monitor and Charge . Same # of photo after recharge

what I think is, that the less the charging current is, the less damage (memory effect) to the cells occurs (and charging takes more time of course)
