Which one will you buy as backup if you already own k-x ? K-x or K200D ?

Advantage of having same camera as backup is that usability is good. On the other hand, as I read k200d & k-x have different rendition and would be useful to have different model as backup.

What's your opinion?

I would go with the K200d - it is a nice build, has an inexpensive (if you can find one) grip option (which would help balancing some of your longer/heavier lenses), and is weather sealed - you could couple it with the cheaper WR lenses for an inclement weather camera.

I like the K200D. It has problems with high ISO, but my K-R works great for that. Yes the rendering is different, I like the CCD sensor in the K200D for daylight. BTW the battery grip is WR too.

I was just in the same position as you I have a kx and wanted a "beater camera". So I ended up getting a k200 with a grip and its great!built like a brick and weather proof as well.

I would go with the K200D as it will be cheaper and has the weather sealing on it. Even though it's not bulletproof in terms of weather sealing but it will definitely be better than the Kx with no sealing at all.

If the K200d has different rendering (K10d sensor and weatherproofed as well, can also be fitted with a grip, but won't give you the ISO performance you enjoy with your K-x), then it wouldn't be a 'backup' but a second camera. Right? I'll never understand this having a Different machine as a Backup. I can understand having a second camera to Use if something craps out on your main camera though.... if that's what you mean by Backup.

this is good advice, i would get the k10d/k20d/k200 or w/e camera that pentax made with the CCD sensor, that one give better low ISO performance, and use the K-X for high ISO performance... and grab something with WR so you can run about in wet weather.

I never had either camera so I'm only going by my experience with the K10d. One would assume you are considering the 200d for the AA battery compatibility and perhaps body size. If you are truly looking for a low ISO workhorse however, Do consider the K10d.

Yes the K200D shares batteries with the K-X and from what I've seen sells for less than the K10D. I've found it annoying to have to carry three different battery chargers while traveling.

My caveat before answering that is that I've never used a K200d. From what I understand however, they have the same sensor.
