K-x freezing problem

I've had my K-x for a few months now, and I run into a problem in video mode sometimes.

In video mode, I half press the shutter to AF, and the mirror pops up to allow Af-point autofocus. The screen then goes black. If I let go of the shutter button, sometimes the screen remains black and I can hear the SR humming. If I try to turn it off, the blue light is still shining, and I can still hear the SR. Notice the mirror is still up in AF mode. I have to open the battery door to get the camera to shut down. The mirror is still in the same position. When I turn the camera on, the mirror returns to it's normal position.

This doesn't happen all the time, and usually only happens when I AF, and let go of the shutter botton (therefore focusing, but not recording). But sometimes, even when I press the shutter all the way down, it still does the above. Has anyone had any similar problems? Any solutions? I am not using the latest firmware. I don't need to use SDXC cards, So I'm using 1.01,with improved cross processing, etc.

I have nothing to offer you other than to say that I've experienced something similar only one with my K-x, and it was related to playback on movie mode. Seems the camera got itself to crash, blanking the LCD whilst the blue light still kept alight. I also had to hard reset the camera (take the batteries out). This had been my first ever crash on any Pentax dSLR (and I've gone through 5 of them so far).

For the first time in close to a year of use, my K-x 'froze up' recently,
the rear LCD went dark with coloured vertical lines across it.
(was in Manual / photo mode at the time)

A simple 'off, wait a while, turn it back on', resolved it.

I've never had that happen to me.
Until just now. The same day I first read your reply.
