Large prints from k-x

What is the largest print people have gotten out of a k-x? I just printed some 20x30 (largest than what the manual indicated) with pretty decent quality.

Is that centimeters or inches?

16x19in with what I consider very good results. Since I knew it was going to be a large print I used a F 28mm f2.8 @ f8, ISO 100, that was the best combo/settings I could muster for the sharpest image possible.

You can blow up images to any size. How GOOD they look depends on 1) whether you WANT them to be photorealistic, rather than poster-ish; and 2) how you present the image. Something seen on a billboard 50m away isn't like pixel-peeping. From a tiny old 1mpx digicam (1216x912 pixels) I've printed 120x90cm posters and 60x45cm photos. Neither were meant for close inspection. And framing, matting, and glassing ANY picture will change how it is seen, as will the placement and lighting of the picture. Presentation is everything.

Think of this: Until recently, the cine standard 35mm frame was a tad smaller than an APS-C frame. Many old filmstocks weren't exactly high-res, and neither were the lenses. Yet these images were projected onto screens of ~9x12m / 30x40 feet. Only a few fanatics / sybarites would sit in the very front row. Most audiences seat themselves at a comfortable viewing distance. In that mode of presentation, lack of crystalline clarity just wasn't noticed.

How big can you blow up a Kx frame? As big as you want. Just take care to present it properly.

Whenever I need answers to this I seek out the Online large printing Service specialists, many have great FAQs before you order.
Also a quick Giggle search always produces the usual thousands of results of good tutorials (which I sometimes read, but still never manage to learn much about it all - great for the quick reference though.)

There's some general math based industry rule of megapickles ~to~ print size balance which seems to be more a guideline of what the end-user/viewer wants and expects their quality of visual output versus viewing distance to be. The further back you can stand... the more filled in the large pic can look.

Design215 Photography Printing Guide - DPI vs PPI
Design215 megapixels comparison and maximum print size charts

Problem is they speak funny acronyms like DPI and PPI which is heavy stuff that printers invented to confuse the rest of us. Best to let them advise. Mere mortals can't afford to buy and run those huge canvas, paper or aluminium sheet/roll printers anyway.

Fwiw: I've never thought the only 12 Mpx of the K-x/K-r to be a hindrance to me in that regard because you can always create near unlimited megapixel images intended for large printing by joining (stitching) several images together via the panorama method. Using MS I.C.E etc.
OK, not a perfect alternative for every situation, but...
