Having had a pentax k10d for a good 4 years I never used catch in focus. Having just received the k-r which has the option in the camera to enabled catch in focus, i just started using it with my manual camera. wow. I cant believe i havent used this for this long.My manual lenses (k28/3.5 , flektogon 35/2.4, vivitar s1 105, tamron sp 70-210/3.5) will be getting a lot more use for sure.

I Think, with your Taks, you'll have to short the contacts on the camera but the way it works is this.

Somewhere in your custom menu should be an option to enable it. Put a lens on your camera that either you can turn off auto focus (on the lens) or a manual focus lens. Put your camera on AF-S. Get your camera set and ready (exposure metering, etc) and focused at the Area you want to snap a photo of. Press and hold the shutter release.

The idea is with a moving object, when the camera sees that it is in focus, it will take the photo. You can also turn the focus ring while pressing the release (full, not half) and turning the focus ring. In the photo I show above, I let the wind blow the (dead) plant into focus.

Jeff that is a stunning picture. Especially considering that the wind was blowing... I'll have to try using catch in focus a little more.

Thank you. Yes, catch in focus (Focus Trap) is a very nice feature to have and has many uses.

With my k10d I can do focus trap but I haven't figured out how to do it with the k-x.

I have done some experiments with cabled remote release on the k10d where I set the camera to wait for an object (hummingbird) to come into focus and it will automatically take pictures each time the bird returns.

I think that is what I wanted to do with the k-x but the lack of a cabled remote stumped my efforts.

Can anyone comment further about that whole shorting the circuits business when using screwmount lenses?

I tried it with my m42 lenses and it worked. i just used a piece foil to cover all the pins on the lens mount of the camera
