My experience with Pentax Repair.

Sent my Kx and DA17-70mm to Criscam for a repair. Kx shutter button is a little bit sticky and focusing is a bit off, while my DA17-70mm's SDM motor was dead several days after receiving it from another PF member. BTW, you can look at my record and check where I got the lens, if you are curious enough.

Only 4 business days after Criscam got the package, they are ready to ship them back. What a surprise. I have thought about buying another body in the interim after listening to a couple of tragic stories with Pentax service center.

Will let you know how things turn out after I get them back. Pretty pleased with the communication so far.

turned out well

Things have turned out very well for me. Pentax service station replaced the shutter button and re-calibrated some parts and replaced a SDM motor. More importantly, they returned everything back in a week, much shorter than my expectation and than the official time given by the initial Pentax estimation. I guess that the timing has to do with the availability of parts.

They also thoroughly cleaned everything including my UV filter. They must have used a special cleaner. Items look as clean as new. They also mentioned that my EBay focusing screen allows slight underexposure.

Only minor gripe. My K-x still misfocuses as bit and I have not found a way to adjust. It does not matter for lenses with f4 or smaller. It does matter on lens with f1.7 which I use a lot. Perhaps, the problem will disappear in daylight situation. But I shoot a lot indoors.

you can get into the K-x's firmware debug mode and set a global lens correction (focus adjustment) if you like.

Search the threads for it... I had posted in the thread if searching through thread's i posted in helps you find it.

K-x focusing?

I know how to do it with my K10D. I think that I would be comfortable doing the "debugging" thing. My question is whether Kx would have focusing problem only in dim light. That is what I read online. If I adjust it in dim light then it might have problem in bright light. Thanks.

wow that's great to hear. the 2 times I even tried contacting Pentax for warranty issuse, they didn't even reply. It was terrible (k-7 green line issue and 12-24mm focusing problem).

no response from them for me

I emailed about repairing a used lens I had seen on online and got no response from Pentax Canada. Oh well. I ended not buying the lens anyway.

I first contacted Pentax and I was told to ship my items directly to Digital Camera Repair | C.R.I.S. A+ BBB Rating in Arizona. I them emailed criscam about the status of my repair two days after shipping them off. Criscam quickly told me that I had to wait as long as 30 working days. Then they gave a customer number and a tracking number. After one day, they gave me an estimate of the problems. They were quickly fixed afterwards. I suspect that my experience was really about criscam, a subcontractor for Pentax.

Yeah. Not impressed with C.R.I.S. Sent K7 with two complaints, noise and AF. Received it back in exactly the same condition with a notation"Adjusted to factory specs." Would have been nice if they had a bit more to say about what they did/didn't do to address my specific complaints.
