Hi Joel,

You must be wanting to live dangerously :-)

I wouldn't screw around with it while it's still under warranty.

Cgeers,
Rusty

I don't plan on using it now, but I like to have all the information before I need it. I like information overload.

Use at your own risk - these are the instructions for

*istD(L) series, K100D and K110D DEBUG STEPS
(it might be possible this also applies to the K100D Super?)

1. Power OFF
While pressing [AE-L]+[INFO], turn the camera ON.
Firmware is desplayed on LCD.
Press [MENU]->[MENU]->[INFO] within 5 seconds.
You can see DEBUG mode screen.
By pressing [Right key>], change DEBUG MODE [DIS] to DEBUG MODE [EN].
Then, Press [OK].

2. Press [MENU], you can see setup menu.

3. Power OFF
While pressing [AE-L]+[INFO], turn the camera ON.
Firmware is desplayed on LCD.
Press [MENU]->[MENU]->[INFO] within 5 seconds.
You can see DEBUG mode screen.
By pressing [Right key], change DEBUG MODE [EN] to DEBUG MODE [DIS].
Then, Press [OK]. This shall return your camera into normal operation (non-debug mode);

Warning - Use entirely at your own risk

I think they 'fixed' that on the K10D and it can't be accessed anymore. The sequence was differnt but stopped working with Firmware 1.3

What sorts of things can you change in this debug menu?
Also can you damage the camera beyond repair, and how?

Hi
I don't believe I ever updated the firmware on my K10D...Should I do it even if the camera is working perfectly?

What is the reason for de-bugging...?
Thanks folks..

If your camera has front focus or back focus problems it can be adjusted, and a few other things.

My K100D has got front/back focus problem. Initially I use the debug menu to adjust the AF settings but find that the setting, while may be ok for 1 lens, will create havoc with other lenses.

Finally sent the body and all pentax lenses back to pentax for lens calibration. Pentax technician inform that some lenses (while attached to the body) are front focusing while some are back focusing.

They also informed that the debug menu (as per frequently discussed in the forum) is THE wrong way of adjusting the AF setting. They mentioned that the debug menu is required to be activated while they connect the body to the PC via USB port so that they can calibrate the body/lens from the computer software itself. They further say that the common way of setting the AF setting via the debug menu is wrong as Pentax would not, in their right mind, only allow AF setting for just 1 type of lens.

They mentioned that the body can be calibrated against "any" number of pentax lenses as the body will memorize the lens' signature (not serial number) and adjust its front/back focusing setting accordingly.

It seems that my camera is now much more better in AF accuracy now that it is calibrated. So I am happy.
