My first post! Flash for *ist DS

Hi everybody,

Just bought a slightly used *ist DS and SMC Pentax FA 28-90mm lens.

I have already an old Pentax SF1 with a Pentax 50 mm f/1.7 M lens, that still works pretty good. I hope I did good with my new purchase. I paid $300. Can. for the body only, and $35.00 for the lens. Since my budget is low these days, would it be possible to buy a decent flash for my *ist for about $50.00 (Ebay or else), and which one should I use?

Thank you in advance,
Mike

There are some cheap flashes on ebay i think they wanted 40bucks, but i dont know if a flash for 40bucks is really worth getting. Seems like a good deal for the camera im actually getting a DS also from Ritz camera with a 18-55mm lens for 359 brand new but ive read only good things on the camera.

But heres the cheap one maybe some one will have some knowledge of the flash.

Hey, thanks for the info...

I don't need a great flash, just something decent for family gatherings and stuff like that. I guess everything is better than the standard flash. I'm tempted by that one, I'll see...

Just got my camera today. Nice stuff, compare to what I had before (a good Finepix S5200). But I can't get a picture yet! My old lens don't have the "A" on the aperture ring, so I need (according to the manual), to change some stuff in the setting menu. I'll check that after supper, hope it works! My new SMC Pentax FA 28-90mm won't be in my mailbox for another week or so...Uhhh!

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,
For the DS the Pentax AF280T works well and they don't cost an arm and a leg. ~30-50$ on ebay.

seeing that you are in canada and you have a ds (ie with ttl support) have a look for a vivitar "series 1" 880afp ie

NEW Vivitar 880AF Auto Focus Flash for PENTAX (880AFP) - eBay, Flash Accessories, Flashes Accessories, Cameras Photo. (end time 23-Oct-07 12:17:23 AEST)

vivitar canada rebadged the sigma ef-500. Doesn't have the p-ttl etc that come with rechipping for the k10d but has ttl etc and should work perfect for the DS. The nice part is like the the one in the link US$60 brand new for a very highly featured flash.

Nice one! Thanks Phil...

Btw, now my Pentax M lens is doing its job, I had to give the camera permission to "use" that kind of manual lens. Still got a lot to learn about DSLR, not exactly the same ballgame compare to point and shoot!
