My K-r is off to C.R.I.S. I have had a lot of noise in my images since I got my camera. The quality is set at the highest level and when enlarging to 100% all images were noisy. After messing with the settings and then finally comparing it to my old and trusty K100D Super I'm sending it in. I have attached an image and would appreciate any thoughts. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, while it's there they can address the FF issue.

I'm not seeing any noise at this size. Maybe you can crop an area where you see the problem and post that.

hi... looks clean from the image posted... the exif data would be helpful... looks like the reflections of the tree in the pond look sharper than the actual trees... dave m

Here is an area cropped and enlarged. EXIF data should be there. It's much more noticeable when I working with the images in Photoshop Elements. Thanks.

Wow, that's crazy over sharpened. That'll cause noise by the bucket full.

Do you maybe have the sharpening set pretty high? It just has that look -- a little over sharpened and that tends to magnify noise.

It's plain to me that you changed the crop from the original posting. If you want to show us noise, there's no need to change the photo to emphasize your point. It's there or it isn't.

My guess is that you've underexposed the photo and noise, if any is coming out in the shadow/dark areas. Evidenced by all the (now) purple areas in the crop. If you've sent your camera off, good luck with it. If not, I would do some more testing and adjusting of exposure before doing so.

I'd say your first problem, which is kind of evident in the photo at the top (not sure what's up with the crop, but like others have pointed out.. that ain't right...), is that you are shooting at f/22. Without knowing which lens you are using, most likely you are going to experience severe degradation of sharpness stopped that far down. For example, if you check out the dpreview tests of the DA 16-45mm, you will see that sharpness starts falling off after f/8, and then from f/16 to f/22 it degrades dramatically. That may be why the trees in the first photo look out of focus compared to their reflection in the water -- they're nearer the edge of the frame and at f/22 you are losing it all the way around the edges.

For me between the overall softness of the picture, then the apparently excessive post-processing to manufacture the sharpness that wasn't there in the lens, it's almost impossible to evaluate the noise in the photograph.

K-r ISO800 is good but not ideal, ISO200 and ISO400 are much clearer.

You should stop down a little, f/9 to f/12 should be the best compromise of depth of field and sharpness which also should allow to use lower ISO for much less noise.

Also which program do you use? I found LR3.3 pretty good for color noise reduction, in fact you only see "luma" noise that looks more like grain.

From the crop it looks more like over sharpening. My experience is that noise would be found all over the image not just in the one area. but because it is in the reflection could the water ripple effect be causing the problem?

Maybe shoot some raw at a range of ISOs and show us some crops with no pp?

I guess my term "noisy" was wrong. It should have been grainy. Here is another totally random shot just to see grain. It was taken at max. quality, no pp except resizing.
