Have never heard of cutting the upc from the manual. Tell my customers to use the one off the bottom of the body box ( not the big box) - like the instructions say. Your contact may be right and may not be right about the sample upc from the book. Why take a chance? Rebate is on body so you get it by buying body or body and lens.
