Thanks to your thread myself and two other Samsung Pentax friends scored a $99 Sigma flash each last weekend.

Psh... I posted a thread dedicated to the Sigma EF-530 ST for $99 a while ago but it got pushed down over time...

I'm not holding any grudge or anything

But, yes, it is a good flash. And I still suggest it. Even if it only has two manual modes and doesn't have HSS.... or wireless P-TTL .... (what else? heh) It's still good for a first flash or if you just need a back-up. I managed to use it this Tuesday for an indoor soccer game - I was right on the sides outside the nets taking pretty good photos. The limit of a 1/180 shutter speed was enough for the pretty fast pace of the game.

I'm considering getting one, if my refund doesn't come through in time.

Vylen, if you're the person that brought the news of the $99 Sigma flash, 3 Pentaxians in Sydney thank you.

I also hit your rep for it.

I couldn't help myself. I got one of those $99 Sigma 530 DG ST's too.
Gee, at a GN of 53 it's a VERY powerful flash. It works really well with my K200D and K-x.

I now have to integrate it with my 20 year old Metz 45CTI and 3 other manual flashes, and $20 eBay wireless flash triggers. Lots of fun strobist experimentation ahead.

Sounds like fun Rawr

Got my new Metz 50 at 7pm tonight, yay Love the metal foot, it doesn't feel like I'm going to break the flash when I put it in. The pTTL bit works on it too, so double yay!! I'm stoked and looking forward to using it over the weekend!

Congrats... the only thing I can suggest now is that, if you haven't already, make sure to have a good amount of batteries on hand if you plan on using it a lot

I have 12 Eneloop batteries for "just in case" - if I ever have to use my Sigma that much haha.

It's just charging them takes a while... oh well

I have 8 eneloops and 8 of the Aldi rechargeables on hand. I do want to get more eneloops though. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it over the next week, as it's only a week until the wedding reception!

Me too Twitch and thank you for your advice

I swear I'm doomed with flashes. I had this in my bag yesterday for the zombie walk. Anyway I went to get it out, it was turned off (had been all morning) but it was so hot I could barely touch it. I eventually got the batteries out at home and the plastic had melted and the red contacts at the bottom melted off as well. I haven't dared try it again.

I just can't figure out how it would do all that if it was off??

Red contacts? The Aldi batteries? Maybe they shorted...
