Customising AE-L

I want to set the AE-L so that when I lock in my focus, the exposure is locked in as well. I find it difficult to press the AE-L button at the same time that I'm trying to half depress the shutter release button to lock in focus on my subject. Customizing the AE-L button to lock in its settings when I lock in my focus would be perfect and not require me to press it (I think). I've tried to figure this out from the manual but can't seem to find the answer. Or have I misunderstood this section?

Thanks.

AE-L lock

On the K100D in the Custom Menu you can set "AE-L with AF Locked" On or Of.
With On the exposure is locked when you have focus lock with the halfpress.
No need to push the AE-L button.
The K10D has undoubdtedly something similar.

Thanks but there's still some confusion here. When I go into the Menu and then over to Tools, the first option that opens is USER. If I open USER I see a number of things that appear to be set by default. I can't seem to find, however, the AE-L lock On and Off option to which you refer. Where exactly did you see this? In fact, I see it in the user's manual on page 33 and 135 but no real explanation as to how to activate it. Can you clarify more? Thanks.

You will find AE-L lock On and Off option in Custom menu, so when you in 'tools' press right arrow key one more time and you'll be in Custom setting. Then scroll down til find AE-L lock On and Off option. This is how you do in K100D
Hope this help.
