Of course its been discontinued. Pentax does not maintain more than two product lines. I'm sure that the last K-7 was assembled before the first production K-5 was built. Any K-7's still being sold new are simply cameras that were already in the pipeline.

When the K-7 was introduced, there were still K20D's in stores, but the K20D was out of production when the K-7 began production.

The same is true of the K-x/K-r. Any K-x's in stores are simply left over inventory.

The only exception is the 645D, but that's a very low-volume camera, compared to the K-x and K-5.

OTOH, if you buy a K-7 from a dealer, its still covered by the warranty and its still as good a camera as it ever was. If the K-7 would have been good enough for you a year ago, it might still be now, and its probably a much better deal.

Unofficially, the K-7 is still available in the US.

Currently, the 3 APS-C cameras are as follows:
Pentax K-5 DSLR
Pentax K-r DSLR
Pentax K-7 DSLR

The K-x is showing up as discontinued at some retailers, but it's still available from Pentax. Note that earlier this month Pentax Japan announced that both the K-x and K-7 were being discontinued.

I say keep the K200 as a secondary. I still have my K20 to go with my K7. You never know when one has to go in for service or somewhere that you dont want to waste time switching lenses. The 200 is still a very capable camera (under 800 ISO, IMO) and definitely worth more than a $100 trade in.

Oh right! Of course you'd never take him up on that... He was just trying to get you to buy the K-7.

Given that the K200D is retailing for $350-400 he obviously thought you were a simp. KEH would give you at least $200, more if you included the cables & SW etc.
