Interesting, indeed. That's the first time I have seen the K anything above the D7000.

Such a list could precipitate tragic psychotic breaks in the Canikon community.

I think the thing is that this is a UK list. In the UK, the D7000 is priced neck and neck with the K5 (as it is in most of Europe). The issue in the US is that there is still a pretty good gap in pricing between the K5 and D7000. I can see how if pricing was equivalent, it would be hard not to pick the K5 over the D7000.

With my K mount lens collection, I would pick the K5 in a heart beat anyway.

Question. If Pentax is so good, why do dealers, at least in the US, not carry Pentax SLRs?

This is more a gripe than a question.

didn't these people review the 645D with a comparison to the Canon 1Ds MKIII at some point?

Good question and a good gripe!
The same situation exists in Australia: (well almost) my four closest specialty camera stores (in cities ranging from 20000 to 90000 population) all carry SOME pentax with KR being top of the range! No K5 and no K7 before it. My local store still has a K20 and a Km on the shelf, but no other Pentaxes at all. All these stores could get a K5 in for me if I ordered one, but would not stock one without an order! They all make too much money out of pushing C+N obviously. To be fair, only one tried to get me to change my mind over what I wanted.
Pentax need to do a bit of marketing!

I asked about Pentax at the local camera shop. The comment was they aren't bringing anything new to the table. Surely some top ratings and a few new lenses could change that attitude.

If they could attract enough attention to get into one of the BORG stores like Best Buy than the doors would open radically for them.

I have never been a herd member so the fact that I am pleased with mine is all I really carry about.

I've always heard it's because Pentax won't extend the same credit as Nikon or Canon. You can be sure Pentax doesn't offer the same kind of spiffs that Nikon and Canon do.

My local camera store is no longer going to be selling Pentax DSLRs. Their inventory is down to a red K-x, a K-7, one flash, one 12-24mm, and eight battery grips for the K20d... It's a shame Pentax can't or won't make a concerted effort to get exposure in the brick and mortar stores. My only consolation is that they have a decent online presence and a lot of purchasing has moved to this realm already. I'm not sure how this holds true for photography in particular though.

It is very pleasing to see the resurgence and renaissance of Pentax.
