K10d firmware at 1.00

Just checked the FW on my new K10d. Surprisingly it is Version 1.00. Does this mean they arent selling? Anyway I'll upgrade it but still concerns me a little.

I'm not sure I understand why it would concern you. Could you elaborate a bit?

All new K10D's start out with firmware 1.00. Its up to the buyer to upgrade to whatever update level that suits you. If you want the most recent version with SDM lens support, get V. 1.30.

Hmm, I would assume they would include the new 1.30 firmware with the newer batches of camera's ?

I can understand they can't upgrade the ones that are in stores or warehouses waiting for people to buy them though.

On the other hand maybe the costs involved for this are to high for them to consider doing this (and it could prevent people complain that their neighbors new camera had version 1.30 and theirs (also new) only has 1.00 so they bought an "old" model for the price of the "new" ?

No, I have always heard on these forums and elsewhere that everything, new batch or old, starts out the door as V. 1.0. As to the reasoning for this, I don't think I have ever read a statement from an official Pentax spokesperson, so I can't comment.

My camera also started as firmware 1.0, well after updates had been around.

I am glad it starts at 1.0 since you can't downgrade your firmware. So people that wish to have 1.1 for the debug mode can have that option, people that want SDM can upgrade to 1.3 when they choose, etc.

What if I upgrade my FW? Do I need to customize my settings again?

Anyone who can testify about any improvements of the camera caused by upgrading?

I just brought the FW issue up for the heck of it. I know I will have to upgrade it myself.

Any known issues with the new FW?

I think upgrading the firmware sets custom settings back to the factory defaults.

No need to be concerned. All K10D's come with firmware 1.00. I suspect this is due to the fact that firmware 1.00 most closely matches the instructions printed in the current owners manual. After all, no need to confuse new users with conflicting info. If a user decides to update the camera himself, the user will be aware of the changes not reflected in the current owners manual. When a new manual is printed at some later date, those manuals and cameras after that will likely include all the firmware updates up to that point.
