K7 90K report

Well after almost 90K, thats 90000 shutter actions according to photome EXIF reader my K7 is still going but is waring out, The SD Card Spring has seamed to fail (Had to pull the card out, it works, sits in tight but does not spring out anymore.
Paint is waring on most of the top corners down to bare metal and some of the grip material esp in the back is pealing (The Nikon F5 had this problem too) So overall I cannot fault the camera at all.
Pentax has built a very good camera platform. I have put about an additional 10-15K since I got the K5 and plan to keep this thing rocketing till it dies (hopefully not soon as though I do want another K5, mr IRS man has said No Money For You! (in the voice of the seinfield soup natzi... in which I should be shot for referencing that program in the first place, but you get the idea)
I hope my K5 holds up as well as its on the fast track to 100K with over 32K
Repairs performed on the K7 to date:
Top replaced after flash on hotshoe impact incident. Minor electronics on same repair as part of the process.

I can't ever imagine taking that many images with any camera I own. However, you did it and I appreciate this report. Very interesting info, thanks.

Thanks for the report. I'm curious how you manage to take so many photos, are you a pro photog? Or maybe just spend an hour or 2 every day taking pics for fun? Or maybe taking pics of your kids saturday sports on hi-continous?

I thought I took a lot with 20k on my K-x, but seems like for every one I take you take 6 or 7 or more. I'm jealous to be perfectly honest.

Very impressive record. 90,000 shots with only minor repair. That say a lot of the camera and of the photographer!

Thank you for sharing your experience. If you could, tell us more of your detailed experience and thoughts....

I shoot for newspapers, Mags and the occasional wedding etc. Its a fulltime gig really. The largest problem is digital storage, I have a Drobo that I have upgraded all the disks now at least once to larger ones and have an additional allotment of other HDD with older stuff on them

OK, sounds like a great job, I'd imagine storage would be a problem at that volume, it must be tempting to occasionally shoot jpeg to limit the space.

Wow that is a lot. Well I sld my K-7 with 62.000 shots, and it was still in perfect condition. So the body is a perfect working machine to me.

Well I have now put the K7 on the back burner after over 101000 frames (still works fine) just got a second K5 as I was finding a larger and larger gap between the 2 bodies esp in Noise shooting night games and my current job has me doing 2-3 night games a week for the season so I upgraded to a second K5...
I still plan to use the K7 as a car-camera (in a bag with a small kit for days im officially off but as you may know a photojournalist is never really off...

I bet your K7 looks great! Like an old WW2 Jeep. I've only had mine about three months, and I've managed to take a comparatively miserly 1600 shots.
That's a great recommendation on shutter life, though.
Regards

If the K-7 is still under warranty you could have Pentax fix the SD card slot spring.
