K10d Related Questions

Questions regarding K10d videos on You Tube.

What is this K10d menu hack video all about?

YouTube - Pentax K10D HACKED - PL MENU

The K10d intro video by Pentax shows the person popping a 67 lens onto the K10d. He mentions having to put the focal length into the SR Menu. Is this only required for manual PK/M42/67 lenses?

What if you use a manual PK/M42/67 zoom lens with SR enabled?

I assume focal length entry is not required when using digital specific lenses?

DFA, FA and A lenses already send the focal length data to the camera.
But, manual lenses (including K mount) and all the other lenses used via an adapter has no those contact points. It asks the focal length of the lens if SR is on when I turn the camera on. If SR is disabled, it's not asked.
You should use your zoom lens as a prime lens at any FL before turn it off and on again. Or you can select median length of your zoom lens... I hope it's not something like 18-250 with XX high zoom ratio

the hack is just what it says in the description, they got to the texts in the german firmware and translated them to polish.

the hack menu, or debug menu. is a menu meant for service persnell to do some extra adjustments, most notably af adjustments. this was possible with early firmware but after pentax found out it had been leaked they blocked access to it in later firmware versions.

Focal length needs to be added for any lens that does not provide focal length data.

this includes all lenses requiring adaptors, i.e. M42 and 6x7 lenses, plus K mount and KA mount lenses, at least early ones.

I am not sure if later KA mount lenses had focal length and distance data fed through the last pin in the mount, or whether that was something that evolved outo f the KAF autofocus mount.
