Yaaaaay! Please keep us updated about what you think of the k-5. Something tells me that if you didn't like the bulk of the 5d, you're going to love the k-5!

i never had any experience with non and kon. all i had since 1971 is Pentax. never left and never will (as long as pentax will keep on making cameras). it takes guts to admit how you missed pentax and i admire you for that. horray - and you're mostly welcome to come back. shall we welcome her with open arms ???? of course...

I want to say how much I appreciate the warm welcome that I've received since I first announced that I was contemplating coming back to Pentax. Reading your posts literally brings tears to my eyes.

It's here!!

I'm waiting on the lenses to show up, but I will say that it definitely is a better fit in my hands.

Glad you like the fit. I was instantly sold the moment I picked up my k-7. It just felt perfect. Canon still requires too many button presses imo. I love the dual wheels. I never got why the canon bodies have that weird stop on the on/off switch for aperture control. In manual. Lots of canon things don't make sense to me.

I planning on posting about that, once I've had a chance to use the camera more.

There are a couple of things I can already say with confidence, though.
1. The K5 is noticeably more quiet than the K20 ever was, especially when mounted with my Sigma 17-70 OS.
2. I took some test pics and edited them in Lightroom 3.6. Not doing anything fancy with the editing, it took me a lot less time to edit the Pentax pics than the Canon pics to my satisfaction. Out of the camera, the colors on the Pentax pics popped while the Canon pics were a bit blah and needed more work to get the colors to pop out.

HTH,
Heather

The colors are great with pentax. I have used some other cameras a bit and none of them have the nice popped colors. Smc coating gives great color too. Pentax reminded me more of film than anything else. Can't wait till I get my k5...

Pretty much like my kit, but sub the 17-70 for the 18-135 (I really wanted a WR lens). That FA100 is a standout, IMHO, and just in time for insect season! After renting Sigma's 28mm macro, I want that.

cameralensrentals.com is a good source for K-mount rental lenses if you want to play before you purchase.

Pentax does not give great colors,

The Sony sensor within the body does that - thus the same sensor used in other dslr's will give the same color

I agree that I could never get a Canon sensor file to look how I wanted it to look during post processing no matter how hard I tried.

SMC or nano coatings etc effect micro contrast and not color.

I wish the K-5 I got wasn't defective; I still have my trusty K-X.. might be a long while before I try to migrate again
