Originally posted by Frogfish This is a commonly held view. However, whilst I neither agree nor disagree because I believe it depends on the specific person and their situation, the fact is you lose a year (or whatever period of time) shooting with a superior camera and the difference that may, or indeed may not, make to your photography.
If you think photography is all about superior gear, then I think you are missing the reason most people enjoy photography. If it is all about superior gear then I recommend the OP get a D3s.
Great pictures are great pictures regardless of the gear that was used. Developing vision and an understanding of light is not camera dependent. If you put together a list of the most inflectional pictures ever made you will notice that NONE of them are great pictures because of the gear that was used. Some of the greatest images ever captured were taken with cameras of far lesser ability than the Pentax K-7.
To steal a quote that I read on another forum:
"Photographers focus on the things that their camera can do and spend their time capturing great images. Gear heads focus on the things that their equipment can't do and spend all their time on message boards complaining about it".
I realize this is a gear head forum and a lot of people are gear heads and collectors first and photographers second.... or third, and that fine. I like gear too.
