A minor less then positive thing about my wife's k100

Hi all!

I was doing some comparison shots of a book with a remote control for her old P&S on it.
comparing different scene modes, ect.
The one thing I noticed is that with moderate cropping, there are some pixelation issues with high quality .jpg output, and when they are done in raw, the pixelation is much, much less.
I realize the benifits of raw, but I am thinking that the jpg compression out of the camera is just a little too compressed

anyone else feel this way?

I haven't told me wife as she wouldn't care, and I told her about the positve things about raw, and the response was "no damn way am I going to do all that for every shot!

I can't say I blame her, though

cheers

randy

Have you got it set to bright or natural? I gather that bright tends to over-process, most people recommend using natural and changing the contrast and sharpness settings, I don't recall to what.

That's where you needed a good bit of salesmanship before getting the 100. That's where you can extol the virtues of the 10D. You could tell her to shoot Raw+JPEG. Then she wouldn't have to do it on everyshot. She could run with the peggers where she felt they were already adequate and pull the Raw file up to adjust/tweak/crop those that needed it. Maybe it wouldn't meant parking a vehicle for a few weeks or months and putting the gas money to the difference in the two but it woulda been more than reasonable to expect because it is a camera right? and the extra walking or extra sharing a vehicle together coulda been healthy physically or relationally. And beside the shoe leather expense woulda been less than the gas saved. (like my wife would ever go for that)

Silly question, Randy. Is JPEG quality set to *** and not ** or *?

(Rhetorical question: Why to they even have ** or * quality?)
