Autofocus with ist-DL and DA 18-135 ED AL

Hello,

I took pictures with ist-DL recent years.

I recently purchased a K-5 with a DA 18-135 ED AL.

I prefer to use prime lenses, and I reserve the 18-135 for the "Tourism ".

I had the idea to put the 18-135 on the ist-DL for use as a "notepad". Unfortunately, the autofocus does not work with the 18-135 on this camera, and manual focus is very tricky with this lens.

Is there a solution to operate with autofocus on the ist-DL with my 18-135 (firmware or otherwise)?

I'm fairly certain the ist-DL (and other ist models) don't have the electrical contact for the DC autofocus motor in the DA 18-135. Also, the lens does not have a screwdrive for the old-fashioned autofocus.

So, you're stuck with manual focusing.

Yep, if you need the AF, you could upgrade on the cheap by selling the DL and getting at k100d Super (the non-super version won't AF the lens, doesn't have the contacts) - you can sell the DL and it'll only cost likely around $100 or so (k100d Super should only be around or under $250) - you'll get the same sensor (if that is important) but add shake reduction and the needed electrical contacts. A used K10d or K200d for around $300-350 would also be relatively cheap, and jump upto the 10mp sensor.

Hello,

A big thank you to Vylen and pxpaulx for your reply.

First I realized it was missing two contacts on the ist-DL for the 18-135 autofocus. Second, the K100D Super is the first model to have these contacts. Both are useful information.

I have to think about it quietly.

Thank you again.
