Thanks for all the help! I think I will go with the k-5. It will just take a bit longer buy it. I think the k-x takes some great baseball pictures, but the auto-foucs is a let down sometimes. As far as lenses go, what are the best options. So far I have the pentax 55-200 and that sure isn't good enough for the night time games. Thanks!

I would say that you need better than 200mm for longer shots. Consider a Tamron 70-200mm with a 1.4 or 1.7 teleconverter. This would give reach and speed at a reasonable price.

You absolutely need a new lens...

For more reach the Pentax 55-300 F4-5.8 is the cheapest , but not fast enough for night time
Next would be Tamron 70-200 F2.8 or Sigma 70-200 F2.8 HSM II, same reach but fast enough for that night game. For more reach an 1.4 TC gives you 120-300mm F4.

If you have k-x, it will be good enough with burst and trap focus - key techniques for capturing sports moment.

Baseball is one sport that you can actually pic the shots and get away with some slow gear. That said, go for the best gear you can.

^^^ This ^^^

Here is a shot of my grandson at t-ball taken with K-x and very economical Tamron 70-300 LD Di Telemacro.

Here is a shot with an added Kenko 1.5 Teleplus converter for more reach. Both from the 1st base fence.

In sunny conditions action shots are not a problem for this combo.

For my granddaughter's softball games that have more action I like using the K-5 with it's faster AF and continuous shooting.
