K-x First Image Dark then all is fine

On my K-x, I turn it on, put it on program, and very very as in like three times ever, occasional, the first image is dark. Next picture is fine and I never have any other problems. Is that anything to be concerned about?

Thing is it's the first time it ever did it. The same day I put it up for sale. I'm just a little neurotic that my sales are all disclosed so I thought I'd ask. I have no idea and the camera has never ever had a problem.

Sorry to reply to myself. But, it only does it after it's been sitting. I turn it on and immediately take a picture. It's dark. Next one okay. It's probably always done it and I never paid attention.

Hard to say. Any chance your batteries are not quite up to snuff?

You might want to change the lens and see if this still happens.

Same.

The first shot is just under exposed. Next shots fine. Oh well. Has worked well for me.

This happened with my *ist DS a few times; totally random and went away after the 1st shot which was always way under exposed.

It happened with different lenses and all of them worked fine on other camera bodies, and I could never reproduce the behavior on purpose.

I just wanted to make sure I told someone before I sold it to them. To me the camera is fine but a person would want to know.

Could you post samples of both first/dark and good photos with exif attached? It may help determining what the camera is trying to do during those shots. My K-x doesn't do what you're describing.

Um, my wife takes pictures and it never does it. I just watched her! Other times, I turn it on an press the button before it full "boots up" and first image is sometimes like that. Strange. oh well, I'm sure I've fully jinxed my sale anyway by now.

This used to happen on my K20D -- it sounds just like what you are experiencing:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/34486-k20d-occasio...-captures.html

When it happened, it was always, ALWAYS the first shot taken after a power-up. And on subsequent shots it was fine.

The problem seemed worse when using some cheap knockoff batteries, but it was intermittent enough that it was really hard to pin down the exact conditions. It did not seem to be temperature related, or lens related, or shutter speed related, or anything like that. It happened with both new autofocus lenses and old Takumars.

I lived with the problem for more than two years, since it was usually pretty infrequent. When my service plan was about to expire, I sent the camera in for repair, and it was (seemingly) pretty well repaired, as far as I could tell. My return slip indicated they did repair the shutter mechanism, but I have no idea what they did, specifically. (It was under a service plan, at no cost to me, fortunately.)

I don't have that camera any more.

Almost sounds like the sensor is taking a while to warm up or the batteries are struggling to get enough voltage to the sensor for a while. Are they particularly cold conditions?

Could also be the shutter blades sticking a little. My DS does this as well - if I pick a long shutter for the first frame the effect isn't as bad.
